Rachid Koraïchi

Born in 1947 in eastern Algeria, Rachid Koraïchi is a contemporary artist whose practice encompasses painting, ceramics, and engraving. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Algiers and then at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he has been exhibiting internationally since the 1970s. Influenced by Sufi culture, ancient manuscripts, and cave paintings, he has developed marked by an exploration of signs and symbols. He works with a variety of materials, including silk, clay, parchment, steel, and stone. His work often pays tribute to his masters: Ibn Arabi, Ibn Khaldoum, Saint Augustine, Jacques Berque… A committed artist, many of his works explore and reinterpret the spiritual and cultural identities of North Africa. Throughout his career, he has developed a personal visual language, often collaborating with his poet and writer friends.

The work presented in the exhibition is carved and inked on a wooden board, inspired by the Koranic tablets of the artist’s childhood. It belongs to a private collection.
