In this all-levels workshop, tailored to senior citizens, participants discover the practice of Sufi meditation (Tamarkoz® method) through physical exercises, deep breathing, and visualization techniques. Exercises proposed in this workshop aim at boosting energy levels, combating fatigue, maintaining emotional and physical balance, and improving overall well-being. Practice is adapted to beginners and does not require any physical preparation.

The Tamarkoz method is the art of self-knowledge through concentration and meditation. Tamarkoz is the Persian word for concentration and it refers to the gathering of all of one’s intention and placing total focus on the heart.  It is the holistic and practical way of recovering and maintaining health, happiness, fulfillment, wellbeing, and discipline in life. This practice promotes deep balance of body and mind.

The origins of Tamarkoz

The Tamarkoz® method, also known as “Sufi Meditation”, has been rooted in the tradition of Sufism for 1400 years. Professor Sadegh Angha and Professor Nader Angha, great Sufi masters, have developed Tamarkoz® in its present form and made it accessible to the greatest number of people throughout the world.

Tamarkoz® offers a combination of several categories of exercises, affordable to everyone, with both immediate and long-term benefits.

The Tamarkoz® method includes

1- Mental Relaxation which is designed to quiet the chattering mind and bring balance between the mind and body. These techniques, when combined with deep breathing, still the mind’s activity and nourish the electromagnetic waves of the brain. When there is peace of mind, the body fills with vital forces, allowing it to heal.

2- Physical Exercises/Movazeneh  are movements that promote balance and reinforce the circulation of electromagnetic energy in the body. Movazeneh means to balance. The exercises are performed in a state of concentration and focus on the heart. Movazeneh works well in conjunction with deep breathing and these methods together boost the body’s immune system.

3- Breathing Exercises focus on the rhythm, duration, and depth of breath. They revitalize the cells of the body and engage the energy centers. On average, we inhale .5 liters of air while during deep breathing we become ten times more efficient and can absorb up to five liters of air. When we breathe in more air, we expel more carbon dioxide. This increase in oxygen results in a stronger and healthier immune system and having more energy.

4- Deep Relaxation involves a series of gentle stretches that rid the body of mental and physical fatigue. The release of muscular and nervous system tensions renews the cells’ energetic resources and allows the student  to experience a deeper dimension of their being.

5- Imagery replaces negative mental images with positive uplifting ones and allows for positive change in our habits and reduces stress levels.. Imagery exercises are performed in a state of deep relaxation. All five senses are used during these exercises.

6- Concentration once these five techniques are mastered, one can achieve Tamarkoz (concentration). Students will unify their brain waves with their heart and in a state of deep relaxation will focus all of their attention on a single point in the heart. Proper practice of Tamarkoz will bring about mental stability and deep peace that leads to a state of heart-centered awareness and ultimate awareness of the true essence of the human being.

Please enjoy a Tamarkoz meditation for the season as you stroll or relax in the garden. We hope this experience allows you to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, rejuvenating your mind and spirit
