Yoshimi Futamura’s ceramic forms evoke the shape and spirit of kashkūls, Sufi vessels symbolizing openness and spiritual receptivity. Her sculptures-vessels, cracked and textured, speak of transformation: raw earth molded by hand, scorched by fire, and imbued with memory. Rooted in Japanese ceramic traditions, Futamura approaches clay not as a passive material but as a living medium, where knowledge is transmitted through touch, presence, and time rather than language.
As part of this program, the public is invited to create their own ceramic offering bowls, inscribe a heart sutra inside, and choose either to take it home or offer it to someone else as a gesture of generosity and sharing, inspired by Sufi heart-to-heart transmission. In doing so, participants join Yoshimi Futamura in embracing a quiet, daily ritual of offering and solidarity, an invitation to open up to care of human and more-than-human realms.
