Sarah Brahim b. 1992, Riyadh; lives and works in Paris and Milan
Sarah Brahim examines how gestures of the body create a language that can be used to voice grief, metamorphosis, the unseen form, and our relationship to the natural world. Transformation through movement is reflected in her works that explore questions of embodiment and cycles of connection, whether social, spatial, or spiritual.
Brahim is a visual and performance artist. She trained as a professional performer, teacher, and choreographer at San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and received a BFA (Hons) from London Contemporary Dance School. Her work, rooted in the experience of the body, has been presented at the 16th Lyon Biennale, the Diriyah Biennale, the Noor Riyadh Festival, and at Louvre Abu Dhabi, where she was nominated for the Richard Mille Art Prize.
She has presented her work at the Bally Foundation in Switzerland for her first solo exhibition (2023-2024), participated in the Locarno Film Festival (2024), and gave a performance for the closing program of the Saudi Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale. She was in residence at the Watermill Center (New York), founded by Robert Wilson (2023). She received the Baroness Nina von Maltzahn Fellowship and was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2024. She is a recipient of the Pina Bausch Fellowship (2025-2026).
