Ghazaleh Esmailpour Qouchani
A guided tour of the exhibition through the lens of Sufi tales. From Rumi’s reed flute lamenting its separation from the reed bed, to Majnûn’s transformative love for Layli in Nizami Ganjavi’s epic tale, and Attar’s Conference of the Birds, these stories offer timeless reflections on longing, love, self-discovery, and spiritual transformation. Along the way, visitors will also encounter the tale of the Roman and Chinese painters, where the heart becomes a mirror capable of reflecting deeper truths. Through artworks, objects, and storytelling, this tour reveals how Sufi narratives continue to inspire artists and audiences across cultures and centuries.

Ghazaleh Esmailpour Qouchani holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Sorbonne University. Her doctoral research examined the role of the color blue in Safavid Persian manuscript painting (sixteenth century), through the study of pigments, production techniques, pictorial and iconographic uses, and their cultural and symbolic meanings.
An art historian, jeweler, and lecturer, she specializes in Islamic art, the Persian arts of the book, material culture, and the history of precious materials.
Her research explores the relationships between works of art, objects, narratives, and craftsmanship, as well as the circulation of gemstones, materials, pigments, artistic techniques, and knowledge across the Persian-speaking world, the broader Islamic world, Asia, and Europe.
Since 2020, she has served as Scientific Advisor and member of the Scientific Committee of Musée d’Art et de Culture Soufis MTO (MACS MTO) in Chatou. Through her research, publications, and museum projects, she develops an interdisciplinary approach that brings together art history, cultural heritage, material studies, and symbolic analysis to better understand works of art in both their artistic dimensions and their historical and cultural contexts.
