Go beyond simply admiring Islamic geometric patterns and learn to understand the visual language behind them. In this hands-on workshop, renowned author and geometric design specialist Eric Broug introduces participants to the fundamental principles that underpin these captivating designs and guides them through the process of creating their own pattern.

The session begins with a short illustrated introduction to the structure, logic, and vocabulary of Islamic geometric design. Participants will then put these ideas into practice using a specially prepared template, ruler, and pencil, gradually constructing a geometric pattern before adding their own creative touches with color.

No prior experience is required. Suitable for ages 10 and up; younger participants are welcome when accompanied by a parent.
Materials provided by the museum, including template, ruler, pencils, and coloring pencils.

Eric Broug is an author, lecturer, artist, and internationally recognized specialist in Islamic architecture and geometric design. For more than twenty-five years, he has studied, taught, and shared the principles of Islamic geometry through lectures, workshops, and educational projects around the world. He is the author of several acclaimed books, including Islamic Geometric Patterns and Islamic Architecture: A World History, which have helped introduce both general audiences and specialists to the richness, diversity, and contemporary relevance of Islamic artistic traditions. Holding an MA in the History of Islamic Art and Architecture from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and having studied at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, Eric Broug regularly collaborates with museums, cultural institutions, and universities internationally.
