Introduction to Sufi music:
The daf, a Persian rhythm

With the musicians of the group Zendeh Delan

Participants in this workshop discover the daf, a percussion instrument whose origins date back to pre-Islamic Persia. The daf was played in religious ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations. This introductory workshop is designed for all levels, enabling participants to discover this instrument and practice the rhythms of sacred Sufi music from the Kurdish region of Iran.

A daf is provided for each participant.
