Syed Kalim Nizami et ses musiciens
The Musée d’Art et de Culture Soufis MTO is honored to host a Mehfil-e-Samā‘, a traditional form of spiritual listening gathering at the heart of Sufi practice. This exceptional gathering is part of the living tradition of the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, one of the major centers of Sufism in India since the 13th century.
Led by Syed Kalim Nizami, a direct descendant of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and heir to this spiritual lineage, the Mehfil-e-Samā‘ brings together musicians who carry on an art form in which music is inseparable from inner transmission.
Nourished by the poetry of the great masters, notably Amir Khusrau, this tradition is not merely a musical performance. It offers a sensory experience in which the kalam—the sung poetic word—acts as a universal language, capable of touching beyond words and cultures.
Through voices, harmoniums, and percussion, the Samā‘ opens a unique space for listening, where rhythm sustains attention, repetition deepens presence, and music becomes both an offering and a path. In this space, everyone is invited to experience a form of inner unity, beyond differences.
Hosting a Mehfil-e-Samā‘ at the museum offers the public the opportunity to connect with a living tradition, where art, spirituality, and transmission converge in a single experience.
