Workshop: Daydreaming Through Landscape

How do we transform a landscape into a story? How can imagination, memory, and observation help us see the world differently?

In this workshop, multidisciplinary artist Faissal El-Malak invites participants on a journey through imagined landscapes. Drawing inspiration from mountains, hills, dunes, and natural environments from around the world, participants will discover how artists use foreground, middle ground, and background to create depth, movement, and narrative within an image.

The session begins with a gentle guided visualization exercise designed to encourage daydreaming and creative exploration. Then, using simple collage, drawing, and storytelling techniques, participants will create a small folded card or miniature story zine that unfolds across three layers of landscape. Along the way, they will explore perspective, scale, and composition while discovering how visual and written narratives can emerge from imagination.

Combining mindfulness, creativity, and collaboration, this workshop offers an accessible and playful introduction to visual storytelling, encouraging participants to become more aware of their surroundings and to see landscapes—not only as places, but as spaces for imagination and transformation.

No prior artistic experience required.
