Charwei Tsai (born in 1980 in Taipei, Taiwan) is a multidisciplinary artist based in between Paris and Taipei. She studied Industrial design and art & architectural history at the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA, 2002) and later completed the postgraduate research program La Seine at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (2010). Deeply rooted in both personal introspection and universal concerns, Tsai’s practice spans video, installation, drawing and performance, her works are often meditative and ephemeral, shaped by her ongoing exploration of the relationship between humans and nature. Drawing from geographical and socio-political narratives, Charwei Tsai, through a spiritual approach invites viewers into participatory experiences resisting passive contemplation and fostering a shared awareness of impermanence, the cultural and religious belief systems. Her works are are held un major international collections, including the Tate Modern (London), Guggenheim (Abu Dhabi), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), Asian Art Museum (San Francisco), M+ Collection (Hong Kong), Queensland Art Gallery (Brisbane), Faurschou Foundation (Copenhagen), Kadist Foundation (San Francisco / Paris), Contemporary Art Institute Villeurbanne / Rhône-Alpes (France), and FRAC Lorraine (France).
