Han Mengyun b. 1989, Wuhan, China; lives and works in London
Han Mengyun’s practice unfolds in two strands. In the “Day” strand, she develops a painterly practice that moves away from Eurocentric narratives to weave connections between the intellectual and visual traditions of Eurasia – from Sanskrit to Persian and Arabic, from Indo-Persian miniatures to Chinese innovations in bookmaking. The “Night” strand explores an introspective dimension informed by her experience as a woman and mother, where writing, film, painting and textile become tools to explore intersectionality, imperial legacies and new forms of female solidarity.
Han is an interdisciplinary and multimedia artist, filmmaker and poet. Her work has been presented at ShanghART in Shanghai and Singapore, UCCA Edge Shanghai, Songeun (Seoul), the Power Station of Art Shanghai, ESEA Contemporary Manchester, as well as the Diriyah Biennale and the Busan Biennale. She has also exhibited at the Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile in Hong Kong, the Zhi Art Museum in China, the Goethe-Institut Shanghai and the Delfina Foundation in London. Her work has been presented by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, Arts AlUla and the Diriyah Biennale Foundation.
She is the recipient of ArtAsiaPacific Artists of the Year (2026), the Robb Report Young Artist Award (2024), and was listed in Forbes 30 Artists (2023). Educated at Bard College and Kyoto University, she holds an MFA from the University of Oxford.
