Katy’taya Catitu Tayassu is an animist artist, whose unique perspective is her greatest strenght. Her gifts and abilities, particularly her perception of light within sound, transcend more traditional concepts associated with contemporary art. Sensitive to immanence and quantum inspirations, her Afro-Native American origins provide a foundation for her work. However, her Brazilian background does not fully explain her artistic journey or unconventional lifestyle. Katy’taya Catitu Tayassu creates her works from sounds that come from elsewhere, with their invisible dimensions are the essential source of her “soundscapes.” She made her debut in 2014 at the Palais de Tokyo with the performance La Danse des Arbres, followed by a sound exploration with her drummer friend, Ours Blanc.
In 2017, Les Gens des Nuages was released on CD format, featuring 13 compositions inspired by clouds, trees, and crystals. Between 2017 and 2019, she was featured in Les Visionnaires a title chosen for a series of conferences and exhibitions in which she presented her first “exposiSONS,” which were broadcast in Paris by the Musée de l’Invisible. In 2022, she created fourteen sound pieces inspired by the sculptures of South African artist Dineo Seshee Bopape. From the 2023 Biennale in Liverpool onwards, Katy’taya Catitu Tayassu created four audiovisual works, one of which, Green Star, has been selected. |
