Nevin Aladağ

Nevin Aladağ was born in 1972 in Van, Turkey. She lives and works in Berlin, Germany. She has created sculptural objects that oscillate between form and function. She never questions spaces only as a physical-manifest event, but also as a social structure that is shaped by gestures and codes. Questions of cultural transfer as well as identity as a fluid concept are inscribed in her works. In many of her works, she uses sculptural-performative means to create sounds, which she uses as raw material for rhythmic and experimental compositions.

Aladağ has participated in several major international exhibitions, including Documenta 14 and the 57th Venice Biennale (both 2017), the Sharjah Biennale (2013), the Ruhr Triennale (2016) and biennales in Carrara, Istanbul and Taipei. She has held solo exhibitions at institutions including the Max Ernst Museum (2024), the SCAD Museum of Art (2023), the Museum Villa Stuck (2021), the Hayward Gallery (2020), the SF MoMA (2019) and the Kunsthalle Basel (2014), to name a few. Her first solo exhibition at Galerie Krinzinger, titled TUNING, took place in 2022. Recent group exhibitions include the Bundeskunsthalle (2023), the Lenbachhaus (2022) and the Tinguely Museum (2021). She will be presenting a solo exhibition at the Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt starting in June 2025. She is represented by the Wentrup gallery (Berlin) and the Krinzinger gallery (Vienna).
