Since the very beginning of her career, Pinaree Sanpitak (Thailand, 1961) has been exploring since the beginning of her career the many narratives surrounding the female body, its experiences, and the various interpretations of the body through a recurring and universal motif: the vessel.

She has created a new series of paintings that resonate with the symbolic and spiritual dimensions of the kashkūls in the MACS MTO collection. The artist draws her inspiration from their shape and the materials used, such as coco de mer, to emphasize the connection between kashkūls and the body. The red color, a recurring feature in her work, is inspired here by the often-colorful cloaks worn by the darvīsh in Pakistan. According to the artist, this color expresses a high state of elevation and enlightenment.
