The works of Troy Makaza (Zimbabwe, 1994) unfold around several stories that echo his own experiences. Particularly influenced by the history and culture of Zimbabwe, the artist draws inspiration from both his socio-political background and personal experience. His distinctive, colorful silicone works, which are at the same time painting and sculpture, bridge tradition and contemporary practice.
Created for the exhibition Un Ciel intérieur, Mutiwaora (“The Tree is Rotten”), the work revolves around the notion of transition and travel between the physical world and spirituality. Like geographical maps which represent a world in perpetual motion, it evokes a territory in constant transformation
